I think you're trading for the window. Hudler isn't going to be around when the window really opens, or if he is he'll be a shadow of his former self. You could trade him for a guy that could be a key piece for opening the window. That's the logic. Really who cares if there's a guy stirring the drink for Calgary this season and next? They aren't going anywhere. And we'll need our other guys to stir the drink instead if this team is going to make the next step, or "walk" as Hartley says. That means that we could hold onto Hudler or let the prospects like Baert and Monahan emerge into Hudler's role while getting a guy that will also emerge at around the same time.
Sure alot of ifs and maybes but that's the logic.
