not sure how interested i am in the team if the team's core stays the same next year (ie. signing stajan and cammalleri, which you'd think are part of the mix in the top 6).

Does it matter who the core is though for the next couple of years? As others have pointed out, we do still need to hit the floor, and if Burke truely believes he may be able to get more for Cammy on contract either at the draft, or sometime in the next two years that is actually the smarter move.
Also, I know it's not popular opinion around here, but the fact is, we aren't yet ripe as an organization with forward prospects that NEED or even SHOULD be playing in the NHL right now for their development. Hopefully over the course of the next year or so that changes as we continue to add and our prospects develop, and hopefully the team adjusts to that change as it occurs.
Burke may be looking to move some of the vets that are on contract because the return is better. Key example, I wouldn't be shocked if he's taking calls about Hudler right now, and is maybe looking to move out a vet on contract, and swap the veteran presence by re-signing someone like Cammy. Not how we would have envisioned it coming into the season, but if that gives us the best futures, it's the way to go.
Very interested to see how the next week plays out............but it might end up not being a complete story until next season, we will have to be patient I think.
