Letterman used to say that the only reason they had two chairs on his show was for when Siskel & Ebert were on the show.
I guess since they're both dead now, NBC figured they didn't need to spring for a second chair for Seth.
EDIT: Whoops, spoke too soon. I guess the furniture delivery truck was late.
