I am not sure if that's really implied though. He was kind of flippant in his comments to Abraham. It's a stretch, but that could just be that he knows Abraham isn't very smart and wouldn't understand his reasoning.
Or, in an ironic twist he's impersonating a scientist just to string Abraham along and get a ride to Washington to find his own wife.
