We spent 6 days in Avignon two summers ago - great town, but 6 days was too long. I'd suggest 3. We did one mini-bus day tour of Arles, Orange and Chateauneuf du Pape, it looked like you could spend a whole day in Arles no problem (they have a large amount of Roman era ruins), Orange wasn't great and CNP would be great if you had a DD to do wineries. Plan accordingly if you intend to drive to/from Avignon - the roads inside the walls are crazy crazy narrow and parking is minimal if not non-existent.
