Yes, we preach this and most other restaurants I've been with (at least the good ones) have as well. Write. the. order. down. Period. Every damn time. No exceptions. Even if it's simple like an Caesar salad and a water, it should get written down just in case you get busy with something else and forget. The amount of mistakes avoided by doing this one simple thing is huge.
Part of the "5 R's" of serving.
Romance (the menu)
Rapport (with the guests),
Review (the order), w
Rite (it the #### down).... and 1 other one I can't remember

I let my partner worry about server stuff.
The point is, at any decent restaurant stuff like this should rarely happen. I know you, Springs1, mentioned that you've found service isn't better at fancier restaurants. Yet at the same time, how can you expect amazing service at the friggin' Red Lobster? Or Boston Pizza? It's going to be fine most of the time, but it's never going to be exceptional. I'm not going to go to a McDonalds and expect a person working their to give me extra napkins without me asking for them just because I ordered extra ketchup and it may be messy. That worker isn't going to notice or care. The quality of service you receive is generally going to reflect on the quality of restaurant you're at.

She reminds me of a friends ex girlfriend. She would always have some issue with someone screwing with her. Be it someone denting her car by getting mad and hitting it, or keying it, or egging her house, stuff like that. Always something. And her response would always be "Why me? I have such bad luck this bad stuff keeps happening!"
Sure, some of it is bad luck, but most of it is partly karma, and partly retaliatory because you're a bitch. If bad stuff is constantly happening to you, or in this case if you're constantly having bad service, at what point do you take a look in the mirror and realize you might be the problem?
No, you being a bitch doesn't suddenly make it ok for a server to be bitchy back to you, that should
absolutely never happen to a customer under any circumstances. But at the same time, how can you complain about a human acting human? Especially when it seems to always happen with you?
