Sort of. He was an outside medal shot, he has been getting a bit worse each season and some skaters had been coming on strong as of late. Some of the guys in front of him really faltered in this race bad.
Not saying he wasn't a contender, just that the idea of him getting a gold and silver and putting up a time like that was not expected.
