I thought that was more Weird Al policy then actual law? I recall he had written permission from some one at Coolio's label for Amish Paradise but hadn't actually spoken with Coolio, when the track came out Coolio wasn't happy. So now Al makes a policy of talking direct to artist in all cases.
I believe the Prince thing is more of a "feel free to perform it in concert, but don't release a studio version" or something along those lines.... Not that I'm a closet Weird Al fan.
