What is happening with the Kings and this move explains why the Flames didn't just put Ramo on IR. I guess there is a rule that an NHL team has to have two goalies on their active roster (even during the Olympic break). The Kings sent Martin Jones back down to get some games in during the break but had to call up another goalie to just sit on their roster for the break.
If Ramo had gone on IR I assume the Flames couldn't have sent Ortio back down (or would have had to call up MacDonald or Roy).
Actually works out nicely for that Kings goalie. As per Capgeek, he makes $40k/year in the AHL. With his NHL salary he'll make $31,000 for 11 days on the NHL roster.
