If this is true and not just a rumor it is very likely that Wolf s being brought in to play on the Heat since 1 or 2 of the big guys there will be moving on or up with the big club. Burke has said on many occasions that he wants developing players (which normally refers to players in the AHL) to be surrounded with some big bodies through their development. With Johnny (hopefully), Grandlund, Sven and Klimchuk all stepping into that development roll its nice to have a 4th liner on the AHL squad that has the job to make them feel safe.

While I don't disagree with your post, the two way contract means very little. Under the CBA Wolf would have to sign a 2-way ELC deal regardless if the Flames plan for him to be a full time NHLer or not.
