The Super Bowl half time show was live before 111,000,000+ people. It's recorded so things go smoothly and drastically reduce the risk of something going wrong.
This isn't Saturday Night Live where the performances are supposed to be live as part of the niche. Super Bowl is the biggest production of the year, it has to go right.
The fact that anyone would think is not lip-synced is the bigger news story.

And they have 5 minutes or so to set the whole thing up. It's much much guaranteed to have something go drastically wrong if they were worried too much about live sound. It has to be perfect, and so, there is no other option besides using pre recorded tracks.
