Worst cab experience I had was in Beijing - was there in 2001, We couldn't speak the language, so the station master handed him a business card that we had given him with the name of the hotel on it. The cab driver refused to take us initially, but the guy directing the cabs would have none of it.

He eventually agreed to take us. 30 minutes later he pulls to the side of the road and thinks he's done. Luckily my dad had a map with him, and we were able to point on a map to where to go and eventually had to point to make a fuss when he finally drove past our hotel.

Turns out he was actually illiterate and was just following the instructions of his boss, probably didn't want to him to find out.
