Sven is still a good prospect and has a lot of potential. He is not doing anything to make other teams lineup and ask for him in a deal, but if dangled he would still be a valuable commodity. He is likely viewed as a prospect that needs a change of scenery and a fresh start elsewhere. I would think he would be a guy that is included in a deal with one of the veterans to get a real good prospect on the verge of playing full time in the NHL, like a Larsson or Toffoli.
The big question is do you trade Baerstchi? I would be hesitant to trade him unless you were getting back a player that looks to be a core player for years to come. If you can get a big young right handed defenseman who has top four potential, or a natural RW with some jam and scoring tough, then I move him without even batting an eye lash. If it is less than that, I would be hesitant, only because of the risk involved.
A lot of Baertschi's problems are his own. This is not on the Flames at all, as they gave him enough opportunity and warning to right his ship. Baertschi has said believes he's the next star on the Flames and came in not willing to put in the work to prove that. He was afforded time on a line with Monahan and Hudler and did not produce or play to the level expected. He was then sent to the farm and has really done very little. You hope that a player who believes he's the next star on the team would go down and rip the AHL up. He's well behind players like Granlund, and that doesn't speak well for Baertschi. Next season is the make or break for him. He has to come to camp, practice and play hard, and then dominate in the AHL and hope for a call up. This expectation needs to be set for the young man, and if this is not the path Baertschi is prepared to follow it may be advantageous to move him while the team can.
