I would imagine that MacT has been trying to get an improvement on defense for a while now (ignoring the Smid trade). The fact that the best he can come up with is a defenseman that has been scratched for half the season on the 6th worst defensive team in the league makes me very happy.
It is a nothing for nothing trade. But these moves seem to indicate that it will be difficult for MacT to improve via trades. That leaves overpaying RFAs and UFAs and building through the draft. Neither of which Edmonton excels at.
