There are two types of players the Flames need right now. The first are young players that the future team can be built around. Cammalleri doesn't fall into that group.

But the second set is veteran players that can shelter the rookies, keep the games marginally competitive, and have the leadership to maintain the compete culture that exists today.

We don't want to be the Oilers. All talent but no guts. Players like Stajan, Cammalleri, and Giordano are big parts of keeping the right culture.

In fact, it is very possible we see potential future building blocks like Backlund, Brodie, Hudler, Russell, Baertschi, etc moved. Not because Burke likes the Cammalleri's better, but because Burke wants different future building blocks to build his future team. (To be clear, I am not suggesting those players should be traded.)

That all said, I still think Cammalleri is moved. I don't think they will be able to sign him to a contract that makes sense. I also think the return will warrant a move. But I do think they would like to keep him if they could.
