You hit the nail on the head right their. It would be really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really stupid for the Flames to lose their first rounder next year with McDavid and a couple other possible franchise guys on the board. We're likely going to be picking in the lottery for another 2-4 years, so trading any first rounders would be a horrible move to make (and quite frankly isn't going to happen).
Now if he were to place an offer sheet on cheaper players and only lose a third or second rounder that sounds more possible. But in that case the other team would more than likely match the offer anyway, so what's the point to begin with?
So no I don't see it happening either, but that doesn't necessarily mean Burke is entirely opposed to it.
Oh and please don't bring up the tired Kessel argument, as the Flames are in a completely different situation than the Leafs were when the trade was made.
