I'd argue the Oilers are poorly built, but have amassed a lot of valuable, young talent. And if they wanted to, they would be able to go out and move talent around to become a decent team in the off season.
A few players like Orielly, Orpik, Luke Schenn, Girardi, Bieksa, Edler, or Hamhuis would make them a most decent team. Team guys, with leadership, and defense first playing styles.

If the Oilers make moves for those guys, teams are going to make them pay heavily.
That's the rub with the Oilers, they're weaknesses are so obvious and blatant that come deadline time people are going to be able to string the Oilers inexperienced GM along and use his desperation to gouge him.
Plus I have this sneaking suspicion that one or two of the big 4 are going to demand a trade this year by the deadline.
