If you were going through this list and were told you could pick any 3 year run of 1st overall picks to build your team around I think 2010-2012 would be the least desired
2013Nathan MacKinnon
2012Nail Yakupov
2011Ryan Nugent-Hopkins
2010Taylor Hall
2009John Tavares
2008Steven Stamkos
2007Patrick Kane
2006Erik Johnson
2005Sidney Crosby
2004Alexander Ovechkin
2003Marc-Andre Fleury
2002Rick Nash
2001Ilya Kovalchuk

Also don't forget how young the oilers franchise players are...
Hall is 21
Nuge is 20
Yak is 19
They're still a ways off from being complete players. Unless your talking about stamkos, crosby, McKinnon or OV in the last 20 years...its takes more than a couple seasons for any 18 year old entering the NHL to find his game.
Or maybe this is the way Atlanta kept getting top 5 picks and only made the playoffs 1nce or 2ce. Hard to say I suppose.
