Even if he's not in the long-term plans, he is still an asset with value for the Flames. He has had a decent level of success in the AHL, so they should be able to get something in return for him, even if it's just a late round pick or another young AHLer.
The Flames are going to have to find spots in the AHL for Kulak and Culkin, and possibly Kanzig and Roy next season, plus Sieloff will hopefully be fully recovered by the fall.

Wasn't he also the first player cut from camp this year?
Things are starting to snowball here in regards to how the organization views him.
