I hope this contract is:
1. short term (2 years?)
2. no clauses to limit ability to trade
If it is both of those, it doesn't hurt Calgary. If it is long term or has NTC then I have doubts.
You need experienced players, you need centres (you can always convert to wing, like Colborne is lately), and if you are trying to keep veteran presence on the team, it is easier to retain veterans in a rebuild than to get them as UFA, and it is stupid to trade for them.
