It also appears to take virtually the same amount of time to type out the phone number as it does to pass a card and have it swiped. Or at least an inconsequential time difference.

Seems to happen quite often when I go. Or people can't figure out what number is associated after several attempts...and then guess what? They ask if they can use my card...you know, the one I brought with me and have out already...
