It's funny how anecdotal evidence works, because I've been going to safeway for years, and have never once seen someone sit there and not know their phone number for their card or the cashier screw up the number.

It also appears to take virtually the same amount of time to type out the phone number as it does to pass a card and have it swiped. Or at least an inconsequential time difference.
