People keep forgetting, Sven's development right now has nothing to do with how he's performing in comparison to his Flames peers. The Flames are a crap team, it's not to look decent against your peers when your peers are this forward group.
Sven's development is all about how he's doing versus his potential, and the Flames need to make decisions on him based on his potential, not how he's doing versus Joe Colborne. Clearly they felt he needed to work on some things to make him the best pro he can be when he reaches his prime, and felt the AHL was the best spot for that. They are trying to make him the best player they can for himself and the Flames. If they'd given up on the Kid and priority one was exiting him from the organization, he'd be playing in the NHL right now putting up mediocre points to raise his trade value as much as possible.
