As non-animal caring as this sounds, it's kind of a weird how our society just picks and chooses what constitutes animals that matter. What are you talking about?
Even for animals that we kill and eat it should be done as humanly as possible, in a way that brings little or no suffering to the cow/pig/etc. Needlessly torturing a cow or pig would be equally as disgusting.
