A picture here would be worth a thousand words, but I think I know which part you are having problems with. Depending on the type of joint you may have a few options. If it's gear type you could try wrapping a little bit of mechanics wire inbetween the joints and then tighten. If it's two flat peices and tightens like a clutch you may be able to shim it with a washer or two.

Really depends on the brand and type of hardware you have. Sometimes some things are not worth fixing. If you're in the market for new hardware you can't go wrong with pearl or Tama hardware.
