Hockey careers have short windows, and starting NHL goalie jobs don't grow on trees for guys like Scriven's. If as a COUPLE, they can't suck it up and move to Edmonton for 5 or 6 years of what will hopefully be a long fruitfull life for both them because of his career, then they are morons. Plus, they can go live wherever the frig they want in the offseason during that time.

So even if you understand the marriage / couple dynamic, the both of them would be idiots to throw away that opportunity because she doesn't like Edmonton.
By the sounds of it, the Oilers see him as their back-up and plan to go big game goalie hunting in the free agent market (or possibly earlier via trade).

Scrivens will probably attract some attention within the league as a UFA in the back-up role and given the choice, I could see him looking elsewhere dependent on who the #1 is and what kind of money the team is offering.

Different story if the Oilers were to hand him the #1 spot, as I don't believe that opportunity is coming from anywhere else. Then he stays, gets them to lock him up long term and cashes in. I just don't see that happening yet in his career.
