The reason Edmonton passed Calgary in 2005 was due to two events: the inaugural Grand Prix of Edmonton and the World Masters Games. While neither are glamourous like the Olympics, both attract huge numbers of spectators/participants.

Weak argument, especially since those numbers are for 2004.
Don't we draw huge numbers from corporate people (not saying Edmonton doesn't have a corporate prescence, but that we have more). Should those business ''visits'' be counted as tourists?
Like I said, arguments both ways. No reason to downplay or come up with excuses.
