29 other teams are trying to get better every day. Well buffalo is debatable.
The good ones draft, develop, sign and trade over a decade to build a winner.
The dumb ones sit around doing nothing, waiting for losing to hit puberty and become winning.
I think you'll see plenty of patience when the rebuild starts actually building something positive. So far it seems all the flames have built is a wonderfully oiler-ish attitude that losing is just a-ok.

The franchises with long-term success in the NHL (Detroit, San Jose) do very little trading. They build patiently through the draft. That's what the Flames are going to have to do. Each season, a few young players will trickle into the lineup. A few young players in the lineup will get a little better. The GM might switch out a few pieces on the periphery, but the core of this team will be drafted. And it will take years for them to develop. That's just the way it goes.
