I view those pictures as kind of like eating meat. If you are uncomfortable knowing how your meat gets from the farm through the kill floor to your plate, you probably shouldn't eat meat.

I'd say it's more like posting a photo of a diseased lung to Facebook. Not likely to change anyone's mind, and most likely to have your friends block you from their feed.
The equivalent of the diseased lung on a pack of cigarettes would be putting a picture of an aborted fetus on the front of your son's boxer shorts. They'd probably both be equally effective at stopping young girls from sticking what's inside in their mouths.
