It only has to be contact in the head area. Being he was laying on the ice and slow to get up, he fullfills the other criteria for when you need to go to the "quiet room" (loss of consciousness, balance or slow to get up) and be evaluated and sit out for a bit to ensure that there is no concussion/further issues.
