Wow, what a funny joke.
The guy wasn't "playing" with a chainsaw as you suggested. He was pruning a tree. While it isn't the smartest way of pruning a tree he wasn't goofing around with the chainsaw. He lost his balance, fell off the ladder and dropped the chainsaw that killed his wife.
I guess we should all laugh at him. After all, he has to live with the fact that his wife was killed as a result of his mistake. There can't be anything funnier than that.
