The weakest #1 center to win a Stanley Cup since the lockout was probably the Bruins center. Yet they had Krejci lead all players in points along with Bergeron. A case could be made for a young Getzlaf and last years Toews.
With #1 defensemen Gonchar won it as did Hedican/Ward.
If you think Ekblad has a better chance at becoming a number 1 defenseman than whoever is available has of becoming a number 1 center it's probably an easy choice, but that might not be the case if they manage to win the lottery or fall a couple spots.

No, I agree, but Dal Colle or Draisaitl or Bennett are not in the same tier as Reinhart.
Ekblad is the better prospect than any one else in my opinion, so you don't take the lesser prospect when the team's need for a stud defencemen is just as great.
