The thing is even during this slump they only just fell below the Islanders and still have games in hand. Buffalo and Edmonton are simply terrible and there's greater odds that the lottery pushes a bottom 3 team out of the top 3 draft positions since it's revamp.
And with the Islanders they'll possibly be looking at moving Vanek, Nabokov and maybe even Visnovsky who are probably helping them a lot more than Cammalleri and friends are helping the Flames at this point.
And maybe more worrisome is Florida. They simply get things done when it's time to pack it in. Both 2002 and 2003 saw them drop heavily and ultimately end up with the 1st overall pick before trading it. 2003 was especially impressive as they were in a playoff position in January and there were 14 teams below them. When it comes to tank Florida knows how to tank.

The flames are pretty terrible right now, they can't score and aren't really in games anymore. The other bad teams are at least scoring and have some aspects of their games that are going ok. The whole thing about the flames being hard to play against is gone, it took its toll on the team and they have nothing to show for it. We have a few players that would be hard pressed to make most nhl teams and our "good" players would be pretty low on the roster too. Don't kid yourself, this team is bad and getting worse
