With him missing half the year I think it's a safe bet the odds of him getting an NHL recall are now very slim, so no harm in sending him to Windsor to play big minutes.

That's not the only advantage. The main advantage is that he's playing at a higher level of play and adapting to pro hockey earlier which may mean he's ready for the NHL earlier. He'd be learning from pros, being around pros, and taught by our own coaching staff in our own system. As an added bonus the Heat are actually really good this year so he'd learn in a winning environment and potentially develop friendships and chemistry with other prospects that he'll play with in the upcoming years on the Flames. Plenty of reasons to still put him in Abby when he's ready. But if they decide to send him back to junior that is probably fine too.
