I watched all the US games, and Gillies wasn't great. He made a few timely saves, and did a fairly good job keeping the US in games, but his rebound control was questionable at best. Talking to people who watch him in Providence a lot this isn't normally an issue for him, so I don't want to really hold such a small sample size against him.
We also had a much, much weaker defense core this year compared to last. A lot less size, and a lot less "character" as well. Sieloff, who barely made the team last year (although he gradually increased his role as the tournament progressed) would have likely been a 2/3 for us this year.
