Unless we can fleece the Leafs, I think that any trade that involves our prospects and seems to be of equal value is a loss to the flames. Once the cupboard is a little more stocked, we can afford to trade prospects whom are organizational redundancies.
We aren't going to get Kadri for Dennis Wideman... I would guess around the league Wideman's trade value is close to zero. His contract is inflated for what he brings to the table. He is a decent PP qback and a fine stop gap to have during a rebuild but at that price will never be good value for a contending team.
If we are looking at something like Backlund + Sven for Kadri it's not worth it IMO. Sven's career PPG is .47 vs .62 for Kadri. Kadri is two years older.. I think Backlund has become a little underrated. He is good defensively, tracks the play well and is one of Calgary's only good players in terms of puck possession. If he can get better at face-offs he's exactly what you would want in a third line center.
Just because Burke made some critical but accurate remarks about Baertschi's play doesn't mean he is on the block.
