Curtis Glencross, in his first game back after missing 22 games due to an ankle injury — which happened in just his sixth game after missing 15 games due to a knee injury — suffers a shoulder injury in the third period of Calgary’s 2-1 last-minute victory over the Los Angeles Kings. Upon being told he’ll be out for the season due to a dislocation, Glencross announces his retirement from hockey to become a rodeo bull rider, because he knows he’ll have better luck on the injury front in that sport. Glencross goes on to win the 2014 Calgary Stampede.

The Providence Friars are eliminated from the NCAA Frozen Four tournament after Jon Gillies, Mark Jankowski and John Gilmour spark a bench-clearing brawl in their semifinal game against Boston College. “I want to be in the NHL next season, so I have to show more truculence,” Jankowski says.

Johnny Gaudreau, who’s skating on a line with Kevin Westgarth and Brian McGrattan, nets 12 goals in a 13-1 win over the New Jersey Devils, making his return to his home state a resounding success. “What were we supposed to do? McGrattan and Westgarth said they’d destroy anybody who checked him or if I stopped the puck,” said Devils goalie Cory Schneider. Gaudreau admits he’s more looking forward to playing in Philadelphia, which is closer to his hometown, and the Flyers suddenly are besieged by a flu virus before the game to be played two nights later.
