The way I remember Smith is much different.
Basically it boils down to this: Under B. Sutter he was really making strides, but after the coaching change, Hartley just seemed to have no use for him at all.
Smith was solid when first acquired, as a depth D-man.....but with some injuries he got more ice time and, IMO he excelled for a stretch, but then got hurt himself. The rest of that season was a write off, then came the lock out and Hartley.
