Yes, at least it causes the question to be asked.
If he had waited one more day, Poirier's contract would not slide.
However, by signing on the 31st, now his contract can (and likely will) slide, pushing his second contract back a year, meaning less money earned by his client.
There are three places Poirier could play next year (assuming he isn't traded):
1) the Flames. If so (very unlikely, IMO) his contract would not slide regardless
2) AHL (most likely, IMO) and if so, his contract will slide
3) CHL as an over-ager (very unlikely IMO) where his contract would also slide
Someone mentioned that maybe the Flames offered assurances, but IMO, the agent just failed Poirier badly, likely causing him to wait a year longer to get a 2nd contract because I suspect he plays in the A next year.
