For the most part most coaches get fired with a year or two left on their contracts. Guys like Andy Reid and John Fox got axed at the end of their deals hence why they got right back into the game. Most will either sit out or work as a co-ordinator until they need a new contract to get paid.

I think the likes of Gruden, Cowher, Dungy, even Brian Billick are done coaching. Even Shanahan is now likely to join that group, and I think Parcells is in executive only mode. So really the pool of guys who previously coached in the NFL with any success is really shallow. I think Holmgren is about the only one I can think of since he's failed so badly as an assistant.

Another relic who might return as a GM could be Carl Peterson. He has 3 probowlers this year out of his last draft with the Chiefs.
I don't think Billick is done. He badly wanted the Eagles job this past year.
