Bouwmeester should be applauded for taking less money (he could have easily got more on the open market) but chose to stay on a team where he would be the #2 guy, and has a very good role on a great team. He will also not be under any kind of magnifying glass, as he was under his previous, large contract.

Phanuef on the other hand is now being paid as the #1 guy, and will be the go to scapegoat. That being said, regardless of one's performance/value, how many people would be willing to make $x/year now, and then be willing to continue employment for less going forward?

does this deal have any sort of no-movement clause?
