Additionally when Gaudreau gets his likely call up at the end of the year, having multiple deterrents will help.

I don't like goons on a playoff type team, but they are extremely helpful in protecting young NHLers who have little to no experience. It gives them breathing room to adapt, instead of getting targeted.
