Since this is a trade value discussion, Brodie has substantially more trade value than Russell and there is no way Brodie would be 'thrown into' a trade the way that Russell might.

oh, I agree. Brodie would have considerable more value, and that's why the Flames might be more compelled to trade Brodie. They would get more for him.
Regardless, I don't see the Flames trading Brodie. In this specific case, why would the Leafs want Brodie anyhow when they already have Gardiner and Riely as young puck moving D?
