Perhaps Russel is getting the easier assignments, but they have also been paired together this year.
It's a small sample size, but aside from age factoring in here, one player has outperformed the other so far this year.

Russell has been great, but he has also been getting easier assignments (not taking anything away from him).
However, Brodie is a better all around defenseman now, and he is only 23.
Since this is a trade value discussion, Brodie has substantially more trade value than Russell and there is no way Brodie would be 'thrown into' a trade the way that Russell might.
