I've seen CBC do this. In the days before every single playoff series was on tv, if the Canadian/CBC designated series ended early, CBC would send their entire crew to an American Game 7 (ie, if it was the only Game 7 in the first round).
The most famous example would be Bob Cole calling the famous Pat Lafontaine quadruple overtime goal because it was the only series left. Also more recently, IIRC, they went and did the Anaheim/Phoenix Game 7 in the early 2000s. Perhaps it didn't make business sense but CBC have never ever taken a hockey feed off of someone else.
