And I am pretty sure the fact that I am not a parent contributes to my total ignorance in this thread. I was the opposite of Minnie's kid, and a lot like yours. I was out on my own and working full time when I was 17. It was go to University, or get out of the house, and I opted for the latter.
That, and I am kind of an ignoramus.
