We got a supposed high-end mattress a few years ago, but it really hasn't worked out.
What's the main difference between the major brands? Best place to buy? Sleep country advertises a lot but it doesn't necessarily mean it is any good

Yes, memory foam mattresses are warmer. Thats because the memory foam uses your body heat for it to contour to your body. So its a foam that is heat activated. In a normal room it can take anywhere between 10 - 20 minutes for it to properly contour to your body. Thats also why putting memory foam mattresses in basements, and whatnot, they feel harder, because it is naturally colder there, and takes longer for the foam to "activate"
sleep country does advertise a lot, most places will have a decent selection of mattresses but it really comes down to having someone that can help you narrow it down.
Main difference between the brands, Sealy does a triple offset coil, also they do a pocket coil, but if your buying pocket coil, buy simmons, it is, in my opinion the best pocket coil out there at the moment. A triple offset coil is that there is three sides closed off, with one side open. they are then attached at the top with a helico wire, which kind of connects everything and makes it the coil it is. This coil is more or less designed to push back as much as you push in, hence that's where their support model is (there is a lot more to it, but harder to explain without having an actual model of it in front to show certain features)
There is only one specialty foam on the market that actually dissipates heat from a person, its the simmons Air Cool Memory foam. They have a hybrid mattress (specialty foam on top, with coils underneath). They have other mattress called comforpedic, which is just this foam all together. They (simmons) bought out a company for the use of this foam solely, because it is pressure based, and not heat based, therefore it reacts faster (comes back to normal) and it dissipates heat.
Keep in mind, most memory foam mattress, especially these gel infused from sealy, serta, will have an inch, if not 2 of the gel infused memory foam, then normal memory foam, then just regular block foam to support the bottom. The benefit with the gel infused stuff is that it does cool down the memory foam, but at the end of the day, its still memory foam that is heat activated.
Things to keep in mind, sorry if i confused you, easier to do this in person with samples and mattresses to show the difference.
