Actually, Simmons patent is not on the actual technology of pocket coils, but its the shape of the coil.

Simmons has basically an inverted coffee cup. They have a wide base, with a narrow top. That allows them to attach their coils approximately 3 inches down, instead of attaching at the top (which most other manufactures do, like sealy, kingsdown etc) Attaching it lower, allows it to be an "independent coil" for the first 3 inches, but with the amount of foam in these mattress, thats all you require now.

Like other people said, lay down on a mattress, but take 5 minutes. Any mattress you lay down on right now is going to feel better because its new, but taking the extra couple min will allow you to settle into the mattress and get a better feeling for it.

My 2 cents, don't buy tempur pedic. IT is a traditional memory foam mattress, but the hype comes because they have done a phenomenal job in marketing themselves. I believe their budget was close to 100 million in advertising, that is close to, if not more then the top 3 put together. (sealy, simmons, serta). There are better specialty foam mattresses out there other then tempur. Just not as widely known.

If you have more questions you can PM me, I do work in mattresses and Furniture. or ask here and i'll answer, and do my best to give a proper answer and maybe others will benefit.
