Mrs. B and I just went through a bed buying decision. It seemed the more we learned about beds the further from a decision we were since there is so much conflicting opinion on what a 'good' bed is.

I am of the belief that "you get what you pay for" doesn't always apply to mattresses. My folks bought a $3000 mattress a few years ago and have hated it ever since. Some of the top-ranked foam mattresses on Amazon.com are less than $400.

In the end we bought an Ikea pocket-coil mattress and a foundation for a total of $600, thinking that if it doesn't work for us we can use their exchange policy (best not to think about what happens to exchanged mattresses!) or replace it since we haven't sunk a lot of money into it. It's only been a week but so far so good.

To the OP, if you're thinking about Temperpedic (memory-foam) specifically, perhaps check out Amazon and look into a high-ranked memory-foam mattress for a lot less $$$. Temperpedic was the first memory foam mattress but I think now a lot of other companies are making good ones and now you're just paying a lot of money for the Temperpedic name.
