We have always stuck with the Simmons mattresses. Their pocked coil technology, with individually wrapped springs, maximizes comfort and is best for motion separation. Sears often have them on for half price at various times of the year.
Simmons no longer holds an exclusive patent on the "pocket coil" and nearly all manufacturers now have some kind of pocket coil mattress in their lineup.
